How To Clean A Neti Pot
You have just got done flushing your sinuses with a neti pot. Now what? Well, the next task is to properly clean and store the neti. Keeping the Neti Pot, or Nostril Pot as it is sometimes called, is essential to prevent the spread of germs. The cleaning process is very simple. Here's some tips on how to clean a neti pot.
You will need an antibacterial dishwashing soap and a nylon bristle brush to perform the cleaning job. The brush should be one that will allow you to reach all the areas of the interior--particularly the spout area.
Here's the simple part. Place a small dab of dishwashing soap in the pot and add enough hot water to allow the soap to foam. ow simply scrub the nostril pot inside and out with the soap. Again remember to wash the inside area of the spout.
Once the scrubbing process is done, thoroughly rinse the pot and then dry it with a clean paper towel. Make sure that you get all the water out of it. Water spots can allow bacteria to grow.
It is vital that the neti pot be cleaned between each use. Sharing the same nostril pot will spread germs and essentially defeats the purpose of the whole process. Each individual should have their own nostril pot if it is not feasible to allow for cleaning the same pot in between users.
Store your neti pot in a clean dry place that is not subject to water splashes, etc. Remember, clean in between users and after you are done with your nasal flush.
