Overview of Forex Registration
Like the hedge fund industry, the off exchange foreign currency industry (forex) has been under attack by congress and regulators over the past year. While the press and pundits are currently focusing on the regulatory changes happening in the hedge fund industry, the changes in the forex industry have been overshadowed. However, forex managers should be ready for future regulation. Last year Congress passed the Farm Bill which requires the CFTC to promulgate rules requiring the registration of forex managers. While the registration rules have not yet been released it is expected that the CFTC will release proposed rules within the next month or two.
